INTRODUCTION:
This guide is intended to help set a default program in your APC environment. The program that Windows uses when you open a particular type of file, such as a PDF file, an image, or a webpage is a default program. For example, if you have more than one web browser installed on your computer, you can choose one of them to be the default browser.
The options you set here only apply to your user account. Your choices won't affect other users on the APC server.
APPLIES TO:
Any user trying to change the default application on the cloud.
REQUIREMENTS:
This feature is only available for Staff users in the cloud. Collaborative users will not be able to access these features.
PROCEDURE:
These are the steps for Windows Server 2012:
Note: For help determining your Windows Server version please contact APC Support.
1.Open Default Programs by clicking the Start button (Windows icon) in the lower left of your APC desktop,
2.and then click the down arrow to bring up the full app list
3.Scroll right to Windows System, and click Default Programs.
4.Click Set your default programs
5.In the left column, highlight the program you want to use. In the bottom right, click Set this program as default to assign the most common file types to that particular program (recommended).
6.More than one program can attempt to use the same file type by default. You can click Choose the defaults for this program in the lower right of the Set Default Programs window to manually configure individual file types with the highlighted program.
If a program does not show up in the list, you can make the program a default by using Set Associations:
1.Open Default Programs by clicking the Windows Logo Picture of the Start button, the down arrow, and then clicking Default Programs under Windows System.
2.Click Associate a file type or protocol with a program.
3.Scroll through the list and click the file type or protocol that you want to assign to a program as a default.
Click Change program.
4.Click the program that you want to use as the default for the file type you selected, or More options to show additional programs. (If you don't see Other Programs, or your program is not listed, click Look for another app on this PC to find the program you want to use, and then click Open. If no other programs are installed that are able to open the file type or protocol, your choices will be limited.)
5.You cannot change an association for a file type or protocol and leave it blank or disassociated. You must select a new program.
Windows Server 2016:
Note: For help determining your Windows Server version please contact APC Support.
1.Navigate to Settings
2.Navigate to System
3.Navigate to Default apps.
4.Click the current default app to see a pop-up menu with other possible apps you can use, or a link to the Windows Store. If you don‘t see the app you want to use (and it's not an app from the Windows Store), you’ll need to go into the Control Panel to set that program as the default. For more information on how to do this, skip to step 6.
5.To set defaults for individual file types (e.g. instead of using one program to open all photo files, you want to use different programs to open JPEGs and PNGs), click Choose default apps by file type. Find the file type you want to change the default app for, click the current default app, and choose the app you want to use from the pop-up menu.
6.If you didn't see the app you wanted to use in the Settings menu, or if you'd like to set certain apps to be the default programs for all the protocols and files they can open, you will need to go into the Control Panel.
7. Click Set defaults by app to open the Set Default Programs Control Panel window.
8. Find the program you want to use and click it to select it. Once the program is selected, click Set this program as default to set the program as the default program for all file types and protocols it’s capable of opening, or click Choose defaults for this program to pick out individual file types and protocols from the list.
