Amicus Billing prevents a Bill from being deleted if a newer Bill exists for the same file.
This includes both Bills and Reminder Statements in Draft or Final which haven't been Posted.
When attempting to delete a Bill from a File the following message may appear:
Invoice cannot be deleted. Before deleting this Bill, you must delete all subsequent Bills for this File. This includes unposted Bills and Reminder Statements in Draft or Final Stage.
To confirm if subsequent Bills are present:
Prior to proceeding to delete any Bills, it is recommended to perform a backup of your Amicus Attorney database as a safety.
Open the File needing the Bill to be deleted. Open Billing then select the Bills on the left.
Along the top set the Show: Paid & Outstanding.
Set filter From and To accordingly to show all posted Bills since the date of the Bill needing to be deleted.
If a newer Bill is present that Bill needs to be deleted.
It is recommended to note the details of the Bill, to be recreated accordingly once the corrections are made to the problem Bill.Right click and select Delete to remove the Bill.
If any payments have been made against the Bill, either full or partial, this will prevent the Bill from being deleted. Please follow the steps in the Invoice cannot be deleted. Bill payment found. Please delete payment first. article to delete the payment prior to deleting the Bill.
If the newest Bill present is the one to be deleted this indicates there is either a Bill in Draft or Final which hasn't been posted or a Reminder Statement.
To review the Draft / Final Bills:
Open the Office module under Amicus Billing.
Select the Create Bill button under the Navigator.
In the Create Bills window select Draft Bills on the left.
This lists all Bills which are in the Draft phase of the creation process. If there is a Draft Bill for the File you are deleting the Bill on, this must be deleted before proceeding.
If there are no Bills for the File under the Draft Bills select Final Bills to confirm if there is a Bill in Final preventing the Bill on the File from being deleted. If a Bill is present in the Final Bills this must be deleted.
Checking Reminder Statements
If there are no Draft or Final Bills, close the Create Bills window.
In the Office module, under the Navigator select the Reminder Statement.
Select Draft on the left. If there is a Draft Reminder Statement this could cause the issue.
Delete the reminder statement listed for the File you are trying to delete the Bill.
