Add Abacus Directory as a Trusted Location in Word
Sometimes Word will prevent a merge from completing because it does not “trust” Abacus. An exception can be made in its settings to allow this.
- Open Microsoft Word.
- Navigate to File > Options > Trust Center.
- Click Trust Center Settings, then navigate to Trusted Locations.
- On the Trusted Locations tab, check Allow Trust Locations on my network (not recommended)
- Click Add new location…
- Click Browse…. Browse to the root Abacus directory on your server.
- Check Subfolders of this location are also trusted.
- Click OK, then click OK again.
- Close all open Word windows, and verify that no WINWORD.EXE processes are still running (see Close Stuck Word Processes).
- Re-open AbacusLaw, and try again.
Try a Default Form
If the above steps did not work, try one of the sample Word forms provided with AbacusLaw to see if the issue also occurs on these forms. For example, you could try the Client Engagement Letter forms that appears under the General Forms category in the AbacusLaw Forms Library.
If the issue does not occur with a default form, there may be an issue with the formatting on the form that you were trying before. Sometimes, simply resaving the form to a new file will resolve this issue (especially if the form was originally created on an earlier version of Microsoft Word).
- Open the respective form in Word. You can do this within Abacus by highlighting the form in your Forms Library, then clicking Design (or, you can simply open the file directly in Word from the folder where it is saved).
- Copy the full contents of the form. A quick way to do this is by holding Ctrl & A on your keyboard to highlight the full contents, then holding Ctrl & C to copy them.
- Inside Word, navigate to File > New. Click Blank Document.
- Paste the contents into the new document.
- Navigate to File > Save, and save the file with the name and location you desire (you can also overwrite the previous form file).
- Re-add the file to your Abacus Forms Library using the Add button.
- Re-try the merge on your Word form.
