Argument error: VAL is generally caused by conflicting connection methods, for example, if one user connects as Z:\Abacus\ and another user connects as \\Server\Abacus.
All connections to the AbacusLaw by CARET software and database should be the same. We highly recommend having all users connect through a mapped drive and have all workstations use the same letter drive.
To resolve Argument error: VAL, follow these steps on each workstation.
- Verify that the workstation has a mapped drive to AbacusLaw by CARET.
- Right-click the AbacusLaw by CARET icon on the workstation desktop. Then, click Properties.
- The Properties window opens. Select the Shortcut tab. Verify the Target and Start in paths match the mapped drive. Click OK to save any changes and close the window.
- Repeat steps 2 and 3 for the Abacus Accounting icon on the workstation desktop.
IMPORTANT! The procedure must be performed on each workstation.
