Older backups are not being deleted, even though the Rolling Backup is set to only keep a certain number of copies.
Cause: The backup location does not have the required permissions to allow deletions.
Amicus Attorney by CARET has an option to configure scheduled backups to occur, without staff members having to be present. To access the configuration for the backups, log into Amicus Attorney by CARET as an Administrator. Go to Office > Firm Settings > Maintenance - Utilities.
The count for Number of Rolling Backup Files determines how many backups Amicus will keep before overwriting the older backups. When a new backup has been successfully created, causing the count to exceed the number set in the Number of Rolling Backup Files, the oldest backup files are deleted leaving the number of copies. Example; Monday‘s backup will replace the previous Monday’s backup as the count is set to 7.
Solution:
Access Amicus Attorney by CARET as an Administrator on the server.
- Go to Office > Firm Settings > Maintenance > Utilities.
- Note the location of the backup folder.
This location must be a local drive to the server and not a UNC path or Mapped Drive, as MS SQL can only perform backups to local drives.
- Open File Explorer and browse to the location of the backup folder, but don't open it.
- Right click on the folder and select Properties, then select the Security tab. Ensure the Everyone group is present and when selected has Full control.
