Abacus Accounting ledger accounts uses a specific numbering scheme for the Chart of Accounts (General Ledger accounts). The format is XXXXX.XX:
The first digit represents the Type of account. No detail activity is entered in these accounts. These are used specifically for financial report layouts.
1 = Asset
2 = Liability
3 = Capital
4 = Revenue
5 = Expense
The next two digits represent the Header level. No detail activity is entered in these accounts. These are used specifically for financial report layouts.
The following two digits represent the Sub Header level. Detail activity is accumulated at this level, unless they are further broken out by a detail account.
The digits following the decimal represent the Detail level. All detail accounts will appear on the Trial Balance, but on the Balance Sheet and Income Statement they will roll up into the corresponding Sub Header account.
