How to Verify How Abacus is Mapped to the Server, and Fix IP Address Mapping

AbacusLaw is not compatible with mapping via IP address, rather than the computer name of the AbacusLaw server. Mapping it this way can cause a series of errors, such as Critical Data Server Error 6097/6420, Error 7077, and Error: Unauthorized Network.

Follow the steps below to check how Abacus is mapped, and correct if it is mapped via IP address.

Check how AbacusLaw is Mapped

Finding the Server Name

1. First, look at the top of your AbacusLaw window to see how Abacus is mapped:
   
   
   
   
2. If your Abacus shortcut is mapped to the server via a UNC path (which looks similar to: \\SERVER\Abacus\v23\data01), you can simply find how it is mapped by looking at the path.
3. The name between the two slashes (\\) and the next slash (e.g. \\SERVER\) is the server name.
   
4. If your Abacus shortcut is mapped via a networked drive (which looks similar to: Z:\Abacus\v23\data01), open your File Explorer in Windows, and find the mapped drive under This PC. Next to the mapped drive should be what it is mapped to in parentheses.
5. The name between the two slashes (\\) and the next slash (e.g. \\SERVER\) is the server name.
   
   
   
   If that server name in the path used by Abacus is actually an IP address (e.g. \\192.168.1.100\, rather than \\SERVER\), then it is mapped via IP address rather than server name. Follow the instructions below if you need to change the mapping to the server.

Correct an IP Address Mapping

Get the server's name from the IP address

If you do not know the name of your AbacusLaw server:

1. Open command prompt. Do a search for cmd in your start menu's search bar.
   
2. Type ping -a IP_address (replace IP_address with the server's IP address that you found above).
   
3. The first line of the results will display the server name. Only use the part of the name prior to the first period, if there is one (the part after this is the domain name).
   
   

Abacus is mapped via UNC Path

1. Right-click on your AbacusLaw shortcut on the desktop. Click Properties.
   
2. Change the Target and Start in paths to use the server name instead.
   
   
   
   
3. Do the same for the Abacus Accounting and Abacus MessageSlips shortcuts on your desktop, if applicable.

Abacus is mapped via networked drive

1. Open File Explorer in Windows. Right-click on the mapped drive, and click Disconnect.
   
   
   
   
2. Right-click on This PC, and click Map Network Drive. Specify the path to your Abacus share on the server. Ensure that the drive uses the same drive letter as the last drive.
