Abstract: The final article in a series of articles about Notifications.
Here are some troubleshooting tips when working with the Notifications feature:
-
Make sure the Abacus Update Service is running. If it is not, you can start it from the Task Manager or by double-clicking it in the Programs folder.
- If you are using AbacusLaw by CARET using an Abacus Private Cloud, please contact Abacus Private Cloud Support at 800-726-3339 for assistance in setting up the Abacus Update Service.

-
Make sure the Abacus Update Service is running from the correct directory. Open the Services window (Control Panel > All Control Panel Items > Administrative Tools > Services), find the Abacus Update Service, right-click it, and click Properties. The Abacus Update Service Properties window appears. Path to executable should match the Abacus directory.
-
On the Notification Center Settings window (File > Setup > System Options, then click Set up Email and SMS Alerts) under General, set Log activity to With Debug info. This causes a log to be created every time the system checks for event changes (at whatever time interval is set). These logs are stored in Abacus\v23\dataXX\Notifications\Logs. You can open them and see what notifications are going out. If there are no logs generated, then that is a sign that the Update Service is not running.
-
If you are testing client notifications, make sure you reset “NextCliRem=” in Abacus.ini (Abacus\settings). Client notifications only go out once a day, so if it has already fired that day, client notifications will not be send until you reset “NextCliRem=”.
- Format: NextCliRem=YYYYMMDDHHMMSS.
