A Windows error similar to the one above appears whenever you try to launch AbacusLaw by CARET, but Windows cannot access the server over the network to launch it. Check each of the below to troubleshoot:
Index
Check that the Mapped Drive is Connected
If AbacusLaw by CARET is mapped using a networked drive (e.g. Z:\v23\data01), check to make sure that the drive has not been disconnected.
- Open File Explorer in Windows.
- Click on This PC. Look under the Network Locations dropdown on the right-hand pane.
-
Check for your mapped drive to AbacusLaw by CARET there, and make sure that it shows a green bar underneath the drive icon, rather than a red X.
- If it shows a red X, try clicking on it to reconnect it. If it shows a green bar after this, it reconnected successfully. If Windows was unable to reconnect it, proceed to the next section.
Check Your Network Connection
-
Check to make sure that you are still connected to the network. Try loading a webpage, or look at the network icon in the bottom right corner of your screen.
- If you are not connected, troubleshoot your network connection.
- If you are connected, your network configuration may have been changed (e.g. you are on a different workgroup or domain now, or Windows switched your network from a “private” to a “public” network, which has more restrictive access). Speak to your IT or system administrator for assistance in troubleshooting these issues, if needed.
Check the Server
- Are you the only user in the office with this issue? If every other user is unable to open AbacusLaw by CARET, and your network connection is fine, check if the server (the machine where AbacusLaw by CARET is installed locally) is on.
- If it is, check if the server has a network connection.
- If the server does have a network connection, its network configuration may have been changed (e.g. it is on a different workgroup or domain now, or Windows switched your network from a “private” to a “public” network, which has more restrictive access). Speak to your IT or system administrator for assistance in troubleshooting these issues, if needed.
