Our licensing registration process requires that there is an internet connection to the Abacus registration server and that the license is only activated on one machine (the server). If you are receiving a message that references any type of registration problem, please try the following steps to resolve.
It could be your server’s firewall blocking the outbound connection. To correct this:
- On the server, add a port range exception for ports 8002-8008 (TCP) to the Windows firewall; do same for any other third-party firewalls.
- Launch AbacusLaw on the server and log in as an admin user.
- Go to _File > Register
- Fill in the Customer ID and Firm Name
- Click Activate
- If you get any message other than “License successfully activated” call tech support.
Another reason that this can occur is because someone in the office attempted to register the Abacus program at a workstation other than the server. Remember, Abacus only gets registered at the server machine. Nowhere else! If this is the case follow these steps:
- Have everyone exit ALL Abacus programs.
- At your server go into the \Abacus\v23_ folder and locate the file called lawwin.dat
- Delete the lawwin.dat
- Open AbacusLaw and click OK through the warning messages to get to the main window.
- Go to File > Register
- Fill in the Customer ID and Firm Name
- Click Activate
- If you get any message other than “License successfully activated” call tech support.
This can also occur after performing a server migration if you did NOT remember to transfer the Abacus license on the old server before placing it on the new server? If so, follow these steps:
- Open the Abacus program on the old server and go to File > Register > Transfer. This will deactivate the license on that machine.
- On the new server go to the \Abacus\v23\ folder and delete the lawwin.dat.
- Open Abacus Law and go to File > Register.
- Fill out the customer ID and Firm Name.
- Then click Activate.
- If you get any message other than “License successfully activated” call tech support.
